Weekly Recap: No One Beats Chuck Norris

Chuck Norris runs until the treadmill gets tired.

Expendables 2 did indeed take the box office with $28 million, but didn’t do as well as the first Expendables and looks doomed to potentially halt the series in its tracks.  It should end up making about $80 mil, which will make it a good Studio Wars fantasy buy at less than $50 mil.

The other three wide releases of the weekend each did about expected, with ParaNorman topping the group with $14 mil, Sparkle bringing in $12 mil, and Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green pulling in $10 mil ($15 mil when counting its early release last week).  All of them should gross around $40 million overall.

Due to the underwhelming performance of Expendables 2, it looks like the Studio Wars: Origins league will be a barn-burner.  Matt currently has a slight edge over Darius, but needed Expendables to explode rather than fizzle, which means Darius is in a good position to take home the title if Lawless can open to at least $15 mil in two weeks.
