5 Must-Have Movie Apps

Movie AppsMobile technology is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide today. More people are taking advantage of being able to access their favourite websites on the go, and with new apps coming out every week there is something for everyone. If you’re a movie buff and you want to be able to watch your favourite films on the train, check in with friends and compare films, get cheap cinema tickets or read reviews, there are plenty of apps to choose from.

IMDB

IMDB or Internet Movie Database, is a profiling and review site. It features virtually every film ever made, and allows users to check out others opinions before deciding whether a movie is worth seeing. It profiles actors and crew members, as well as giving a summary of the plot for each film. It lets you check out the cast list and provides all manner of interesting and obscure trivia about all your favourite films. It has a top 250 list which is updated daily, and compiled from literally thousands of reviews and opinions, so if you’re unsure what to watch next, this is the app for you.

MovieLingo

A fun trivia game based around famous quotes from films, it can be played alone or against friends, and is easy to use. It can be set up as a completely random generator, or you can set your own parameters for genre or era. This can be especially good if you have a more selective taste in films and want to wow your friends with your knowledge.

The most famous movie line of all time… ‘Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn’ from ‘Gone With The Wind’

Netflix

Perhaps one of the best known movie apps around – it allows users to stream feature length pictures straight to their mobile from a large database. Similar to LoveFilm in operation style, this app is not free, but has a fixed price plan. Users can choose to subscribe to a package of their choice, starting form £5.99 per month, and for this amount can select as many films or TV shows to watch per month as their package allows.

GetGlue

The GetGlue app is more of a social networking site, encouraging users to check in and comment on what they themselves are watching, and find out what other, like-minded people recommend. The app will give out recommendations of its own based on what you check in, guiding you towards similar movies or television shows. As an added extra, users earn virtual stickers each time they check in. When they reach twenty, they can have the actual stickers mailed to them for free – a collector’s dream!

The Orange Wednesdays Apps

Finally, Orange Wednesdays is a free app for all Orange mobile customers. It lets users text in to get two for one cinema tickets every Wednesday, and also posts film reviews, trivia and movie quotes, lets users watch trailers and even gets you two for one pizza after the film.
